Cats on a Couch has been busy. When we heard about the Vice President’s fundraising dinner on Nantucket (where the price tag is a jaw-dropping $250,000 per couple for a seat on the host committee and $100,000 for attending the dinner alone), we knew it was time to act. After all, this event comes at a moment when millions of Americans are fighting for basic health care, while others struggle with crushing debt.
Being based on Cape Cod, just a short ferry ride from Nantucket, we realized this was the purr-fect opportunity to make some noise (and meows) in person. And so, “Meowtucket” was born.

Hey all! So here is the update:
Locals have received conflicting reports that JD Vance could be arriving on Island as early as 10:00 am, or as late as 4:30.
With this in mind, we’ve all decided to move our show closer to town (the airport was significantly out of the way).
People will arrive by ferry downtown, and can get into a ruckus on main street with signs, flyers, etc.
We plan to still hold the rally from 2:00 -4:00 ish, but now it has been moved to the green area at Children’s Beach (Again, downtown – closer to amenities, closer to the dinner/lodging locations, etc. )
We will be having the rally and then a march to the dinner location (approx. 1.25 miles). We will stand out in protest for the duration of the dinner, and then catch the motorcade out of the dinner.

If he DOESN’T arrive early, then the plan is still just to meet at the downtown location and line the streets downtown. (It is a VERY small downtown area… so any amount of people with signs will cause a stir).
If you arrive prior to say 1:30, it’s sort of a “connect-with-whoever-you-want-to-connect-with-and-get-into-good trouble” or go get lunch or walk around type thing.
For any who are catching the ferries back at night, this is also ideal – as he is now not scheduled to leave until the following day, so being at the airport at night would have been awful. You will now be downtown near the dinner location, and near the ferries.
If you are staying overnight; there will likely be plans to go to the airport for the few that will be there to “see him off”

Protests and Community Standouts: Bring your signs, your voices, and your spirit.
Educational Material Giveaways: We’ll be distributing resources to help raise awareness.
Art Demonstrations: Using creativity as a form of advocacy.
Community Engagement: Dialogue and connection with locals and visitors to spread the word about pressing issues. Please consider bringing cash to make a donation to some worthy Island organizations.
This is an event built by the people, for the people. Whether you’re already an activist or new to the game, Meowtucket invites everyone to be part of something impactful.

Schedule
2:00 PM – Community building/activities/music/rally at the Old South Road Park (corner of Airport Rd. & Old South Rd.)
:4:00 PM ish – Protest along motorcade route, protesting and standouts remain fluid and will change as we learn more about dinner timing and locations.

Why Cats?
If you’ve been following Cats on a Couch, you know where it all began. JD Vance’s infamous remark comparing the state of American leadership at the time to “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable in their own lives” sparked anger, memes, and a movement.
From that flippant comment sprang a community of over 1 million “petty besties” across social media platforms. Through videos, posts, and stories, Cats on a Couch quickly grew into much more than an online phenomenon.
We’ve turned frustration into action by organizing postcard-writing drives, protesting, advocating to Congress, and now, launching events like Meowtucket. Our focus has always been on making participating in good trouble and democracy accessible, actionable, and (dare we say?) a little fun.

We even made these posters to hang all over the Island. Get yours here.

And so many people tried to download our flyer from the link that we provided, that it crashed our Google Drive.
